Introduction

Poor sleep is rarely just a sleep problem. Behind persistent sleeplessness there is almost always a combination of factors — an overactivated nervous system, chronic muscle tension, hormonal disruption, an environment or routine that does not support the body's transition into rest, or simply a stress load that the body cannot put down at the end of the day. This programme works on all of it.

The NJK Derma approach

The sleep programme uses deeply grounding parasympathetic nervous system massage — slow, sustained, full-body work designed to move the nervous system from the activated sympathetic state that poor sleepers are often locked in, into the parasympathetic rest-and-digest state that sleep requires. The session is designed as a complete sensory experience: the environment, the touch, and the essential oil blend all work in the same direction. This is not relaxation massage with a sleep label — it is a considered clinical approach to nervous system downregulation, delivered with the specific intention of restoring the body's capacity to sleep. Regular sessions build a cumulative effect, training the nervous system to access the parasympathetic state more readily.

What the journey looks like

The programme begins with a consultation covering sleep history, lifestyle, stress patterns, hormonal context, and current sleep habits and environment. A programme of sessions is built from there — with homecare guidance on sleep hygiene, evening routine, and nervous system regulation forming an integral part of the programme rather than a supplement to it.

The blend — essential oils & their role

Every treatment uses a bespoke essential oil blend formulated specifically for this programme. Each oil is selected for its clinical relevance to the concern being addressed.

Lavender — non-negotiable in a sleep blend. The most extensively researched essential oil for sleep onset and quality. Reduces the time to sleep and improves depth and consistency

Vetiver — deeply grounding and gently sedative. Exceptional for an overactive mind and the physical restlessness that prevents sleep. Earthy, distinctive, and highly effective

Cedarwood — contains cedrol, which has a mild sedative effect and supports the body's natural melatonin production — making it particularly valuable for sleep onset

Sandalwood — grounding and calming. Reduces mental chatter and creates a deep sense of stillness that supports the transition into sleep

Roman chamomile — gentle sedative and nervine. Particularly effective for anxiety-driven sleeplessness and the physical tension that accompanies it

Marjoram — warming and sedating. Traditionally used as a sleep aid and particularly effective for the kind of sleeplessness driven by physical tension and an inability to fully relax


 

This is the most sedating blend in the NJK Derma wellness range. Applied in an olive, castor, and argan base with slow, deliberate technique throughout. Clients are advised to allow time after the session before driving.
